The significance of color, mindful consumption, and designing your dream life, pt. 2
Hi and welcome back to our “designing your dream life” series!
In part one, we tackled the scariest beast of them all — how to find an apartment in Berlin. We also went over the process of how to get started on making furniture and design decisions, to make your blank canvas feel a little less empty!
In today’s installment, I’ll be going over what led me to my specific design choices in my apartment/walking you through the process of how to do the same, how you can incorporate signature colors and style accents into your space, selecting furniture that is both functional and elevates your environment, and being mindful about the pitfalls of overconsumption.

A meditation on mindful consumption
One thing I’m quite proud of is how little my home has changed in the last three years. If you’ve been following along (I would say this is my first video that gained traction that wasn’t an apartment tour, back in February 2021) you’ll know the only big changes I’ve made are that I’ve acquired a few rugs since then (and a few I keep in storage and rotate out), hung up my art, and swapped out my coffee table.
Especially in the TikTok era, and I’ve noticed this particularly intensely with American influencers and consumption habits (more on that in Dinner at Sera’s this Sunday), we’re constantly inundated with endless choices made available to us by fleeting trends.
The idea behind a more mindful approach to consumption is to keep us moving forwards on a path towards purpose and responsibility. When so much of our lives often feels out of control and even truly random (punctuated hauntingly by the news we’re forced to consume), purchasing strategically serves as an invitation to embrace a lifestyle that values intentionality and social consciousness. This may sound somewhat overblown, and that’s ok with me, but it’s my belief that as individuals, each mindful choice we make genuinely holds the potential to refocus from the noise we encounter on a daily basis, carving out a more harmonious and equitable future for us all.
This philosophy of purposeful living forms the basis of my own ethos. It’s a reminder that our choices, no matter how small, carry immense power — to shape a world that aligns with our values and aspirations.
So without further ado, let’s jump into how you can take a careful and intentional approach to curating your dream environment.
Building your color palette
Whether you’re starting from scratch, or giving your place a facelift, it’s important to determine your color preferences. Colors are the obvious language through which we articulate both our emotions and our style.
For me, the allure of Klein blue, interwoven with the vibrancy of red and the warmth of orange, forms the core of my design ethos—if I had to put it into words, I’d say it’s most like a fusion of Scandinavian minimalism and Mediterranean exuberance.
